Simon Coles obtained his BSc and PhD at the University of Wales, Cardiff in 1992 and 1997 respectively and went on to perform post-doctoral work building the Small Molecule Single Crystal beamline, 9.8 at the CCLRC Daresbury Laboratory.
He then moved to the University of Southampton to manage the National Crystallography Service. Simon transferred to the School of Chemistry staff in July 2009, took over the role of Director of the National Crystallography Service and is now a Senior Lecturer.
Research interests include structural systematics, electron density determination, studying dynamic structural change and understanding crystal growth. Simon also has interests in macromolecular structure and has successfully been awarded a number of grants in the area of Information Management, eResearch and eLearning
